"The fundamental challenge for me is to depict this society in all its complexity." Kleber Mendonça Filho (Director)

SUMMARY

The latest jewel from Kleber Mendonça Filho, who won the !f Inspired Award in 2013 with his first feature Neighbouring Sounds.

!f audiences will recall director Kleber Mendonça Filho (Neighboring Sounds), the !f !nspired 2013 winner. His second feature Aquarius, premiered at Cannes 2016, tells the story of a retired music critic living alone in her 60s, and also mirrors the social problems of today's Brazil. Clara, a modern woman not constrained by her age, remembers the past but is not stuck in it, listens to both her old records spread all around her house and new music downloaded on her phone, and is still fluid in her sexuality. She might be the most wholesome character created in cinema this year, thanks also to an impeccable performance by Sonia Braga. On your way out of the cinema, it's hard not to fantasize about befriending a person like Clara ** with the film's soundtrack as background.
