"I'm just so full of joy tonight to see all these people celebrating his words and his beautiful voice. I thank JT from the bottom of my heart." Winona Ryder (From the film)
My name is Laura Albert and I am JT Leroy, the writer.
Jeremiah "Terminator" LeRoy got great recognition with the novel Sarah (2000) and the short story collection 'The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things' (2001). Everyone raved over these raw tales of child abuse, drugs, truck-stop sex and other bumps in the road for this HIV-positive, transgender male. Gus Van Sant acquired the film rights for 'Sarah' and adapted it to Elephant (2003). Asia Argento adapted 'The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things' for the cinema. Bono, Winona Ryder and Courtney Love were among the celebrities frequently seen with LeRoy. Then, in 2006, came the shock revelation that JT LeRoy was the invented male persona of Brooklyn-born Laura Albert, a former phone-sex operator turned San Francisco housewife and mother -- and the LeRoy persona was performed by her husband's sister. But, how did she manage to deceive everyone?
