Quiet, subtle and loosely knit, Certain Women tells the story of three women unconnected with each other. Laura is a hardworking lawyer taken hostage by a client who believes he's been unfairly treated. Gina is working hard to own the dream house where she'd live with her husband and daughter, but it's hard to ignore the tensions brewing within the family. A young woman working at the stables in a small town falls in love with another woman who teaches law to adults: It could be love, or a very emotional and strange friendship. Reichardt is not interested in definitions or conclusions. And Certain Women, is certainly a Reichardt-style cinematic feast, a visual poem. She conveys the tensions, doubts and hidden desires ever so slowly, reminding you of a dream, without trying to reach finality. In this dream all these women desperately want to connect with someone, but their desire to be on their own is just as strong. Born in Miami, Kelly Reichardt studied fine arts in Boston and directed her first feature film River of Grass in 1994. Ode (1999), Then a Year (2001), and Travis (2004) are among her well-known shorts. Her feature films Old Joy (2006), Wendy and Lucy (2008, !f 2009), Meek's Cutoff (2010) and Night Moves (2013) won several awards at festivals.
