Rikard is an autistic and severely deformed man who was separated from his mother at birth. Thirty years later, he's convinced that he can only be reunited with her if he wins the petanque championship of Scandinavia. So he attempts the impossible, undeterred by a fragile physique and a judgemental environment. After all, he has a 300-foot giant on his side! Johannes Nyholm shines in his first feature, creating a unique and tender film based on his experience working with disabled kids; it's also very clearly a contemporary take on David Lynch's cult classic The Elephant Man. Born in 1974, Swedish artist and film director Johannes Nyholm is based in Gothenburg. His works include the shorts The Tale of Little Puppetboy (2008), Dreams from the Woods (2009) and Las Palmas (2011), which were shown widely at festivals, in art galleries and on TV . The Giant (2016) is his first feature.
