Light always shines through the dark. Always.
Shambles is set in warehouses, factories, tunnels, and beat-up cars on dirt roads. It's got that black-and-white, intense underground mood and texture. We're in a poor rural town in Canada and Vincent and his bandmates are in big trouble with a group of local drug dealers when they steal some pot. When they're taken to the dealers' warehouse, Vincent runs into his brother Michel, with whom he hasn't spoken for ages, and so is unwilling to turn to for help. Shambles has a dystopian darkness that lets some light sneak in when the two brothers start to bond. With its plain yet uncanny story and atmosphere, Shambles is about the powerful feelings we hold onto deep down when going through the darkness.

Karl Lemieux is an important figure in Montreal's experimental film scene. He also provides musicians such as Godspeed You! and Black Emperor with visual performances at their concerts. His first narrative short film Passage (2008) won awards, and his latest short documentary Quiet Zone (2015) competed at international film festivals. His films, installations and performances have been shown at various venues all over the world.
