In search of lost time and songs.
Not Everyday is Spring loosely traces the footsteps of Udi Hrant Kenkulian (a significant contributor to Turkish classical music), as well as those of the stones from the Pangalti cemetery, dispersed around the city and integrated into its architecture. Aivazian creates a sensory experience of particular textures, sounds and images. These become the carriers of historical resonance ** as do the bodies of musicians, the bellies of their instruments, and the materials of the buildings that house them. *Ismyrne and Not Everyday is Spring will be screened together.
Artist and writer Haig Aivazian was born in 1980 in Beirut. He received his MFA from Northwestern University in Chicago. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Sfeir- Semler Gallery, Hamburg; Parisian Laundry, Montréal, and his videos have been presented in group exhibitions and festivals including the 14th Istanbul Biennial and the 56th Venice Biennale.
