The filmmakers that have influenced me the most, and this may not be obvious, are Jacques Démy and Joseph Von Sternberg. Anna Biller (Director)
A poisonous love story!
Elaine, a beautiful young witch, is determined to find the man of her life. In her gothic Victorian mansion she throws spells and makes potions to seduce all the men she likes. However, her spells work too well, leaving her with the burden of dealing with a string of helpless victims. When she finally meets the man of her dreams, her desperation to be loved will drive her to the brink of insanity and murder. With a visual style that pays homage to Technicolor thrillers of the '60s, and sexploitation movies of the 70s, Anne Blier's The Love Witch casts a spell on the dreamy world of the female psyche through a dazzlingly beautiful and poisonous feminist take. It is already destined to be an instant cult classic!
