A New York tale about love, loss… and vampires.
Milo, a 14-year-old loner, lives with his brother in a rundown neighbourhood in Queens, NY. He is bullied by local gang members, and haunted by the death of his mother, who committed suicide in their apartment when he was 8 years old. Milo is very quiet and has an urge to drink human blood. He spends his days alone in his room making notes about murder, and his nights prowling the streets in search of victims. An emotional character study, a sad love story and a horror drama all at once, The Transfiguration is one of the those rare films by a debut director that came from nowhere to make it into Cannes. The camera mostly keeps a distance from the NY crowd, to emphasize the alienation of growing up there. The Transfiguration takes on the pitiless energy of big-city life.

Michael O'Shea was born in Brooklyn, New York. The Transfiguration (2016) is the first film he directed and wrote. It was nominated for the Golden Camera Award and Un Certain Regard Award at Cannes Film Festival.
