Let's go back to Edinburgh in 1995 to witness the renuion with Mark Renton and his so-called friends - a group of losers, liars, psychos and drug addicts - who throw themselves into the nothingness of heroin and search the murky depths at the bottom of the bottle; financing their habits through lives of petty crime. After one too many brushes with the law and a near-fatal overdose, Renton kicks the junk and moves to London in an attempt to escape the self-destructive lifestyle of those around him. But when his old friends Sick Boy, Begbie and Spud arrive at his doorstep on the trail of a big score, Renton must decide whether or not he really wants to choose life. With John Hodge's screenplay, adapted from the cult novel by Irvine Welsh, Danny Boyle introduces a purely British kind of social-realist pessimism.

Danny Boyle was born in 1956 in Manchester, England. He won BAFTA Award for Best British Film with his first feature Shallow Grave (1994). Later on, he drew attention with Trainspotting (1996) and got acclaimed with Slumdog Millionaire (2008; !f 2009), which received numerous awards and nominations, including Oscars. His filmography include The Beach (2000), 28 Days Later (2002), Sunshine (2007), 127 Hours (2010), and Steve Jobs (2015).
