"The tail is a metaphor. Its actual appearance in this story, and the reaction to it, is not so important." Ivan I. Tverdovskiy (Director)
Tale of a tail!
The film follows Natasha, a lonely middle-aged woman who still lives with her mother and works as an administrative clerk at the zoo. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she discovers she has suddenly grown a real tail. After an initial embarrassment, Natasha decides to go further with the transformation and use it as an opportunity to redefine herself as a person and as a woman. With this new "accessory" she gets access to lives she has never experienced before – she starts a relationship with a man, who finds her tail attractive, she goes out and allows herself to be foolish for the first time in her life. Ivan Todorovksy's sophomore effort is one of the best surrealist works of the year: a wonderfully grotesque fairy tale and allegory of alienation that is both uncanny and extremely funny!
